Golf is unique amongst sports in the size and diversity of its labour market with many golf qualifications, some recognised in national qualification systems and others purely sector-based. It is estimated that Golf in Europe engages more than 4.3 million registered participants with many more casual golfers. The European market is serviced by workforce of almost 400,000 employees that are required to deliver services which not only keep golfers in the game, but attract new participants and develop elite athletes.
With new golf markets emerging in Southern and Eastern Europe and the landscape changing in developed markets, are the learning outcomes and qualifications that exist understood by employers and golfers and do they truly meet the needs of the diverse markets across the EU?
If we are to meet these challenges, it is imperative that those working in the sector in face to face roles are equipped with the necessary skills through fit for purpose qualifications.
